Bed Protection Sheets: An Essential For The Bed Wetting Stage

December 3, 2017

Now Oscar is slowly approaching 2, we decided it was about time to start gradually introducing him to the potty, and to encourage him as much as possible whenever we could. One thing that always stood out for me, with all of the advice we received from multiple health professionals, is that it is definitely a gradual process, and to make sure they’re used to seeing a potty around the house before they even attempt to use it. We’ve had it lying around for about 3 months, and he is finally beginning to understand exactly what it is there for.

One of the biggest changes in our home as of recent, is our decision to ditch the nappies for pull ups. What I didn’t realise, is that with pull ups, the frequency of night time accidents is a lot higher than it used to be. I found that when you already have very little time, making sure their mattress is clean and dry following an accident is never a quick process, and one I would much rather avoid.

We had tried many methods to avoid this problem, such as a plastic water proof cover. The noise it would make when Oscar turned through the night would wake him up every few hours, and it was becoming a hindrance to our bed time routine until we gave up and got rid.

Thankfully, we were lucky enough to be sent mattress protector sheets from Hartmann DirectΒ which have now become an essential in our home.

They provide a simple, affordable and effective way of containing any accidents, and are extremely absorbent in comparison to any other pads we have tried. When using them underneath his bed sheet, I found that absolutely no liquid had ran through, and his mattress was left clean and dry, ready for the next day. Oscar also cannot tell that they are there, so they make no difference to his sleep and do not disturb him throughout the night. All you need to do is lay down the sheet over their mattress and you’re good to go.

Every time I change his pad and bed sheet, I also lightly spray his mattress with diluted Zoflora, which keeps his mattress smelling fresh and clean ready for the night ahead. It is so much easier than having to scrub it with disinfectant every morning, and I am confident in knowing that the sheets will definitely protect his mattress through the night if any accidents are to happen during this dreaded stage.

You can purchase 3 different types of sheets from Hartmann Direct and they come in various levels of absorbency (moderate to severe) in order to suit the needs of your child. They also vary in size to fit different beds, so will definitely follow Oscar when moving from his toddler bed to a single within the next few months.

I could not recommend these sheets enough, and I am so grateful to Hartmann Direct for sending them to us.

Oh I wish I had known about these during our potty training days with Noah, but I know they’ll be a must when P gets to this stage.

We had the same issues with the plastic protector and it would just let the wet run off of it down the sides of the mattress – total mare.
