Summer 2019 Fitness & Health Goals

July 4, 2018

Like everybody else I know, I started the year with the resolution that I would lose weight, improve my fitness, and eat clean by the summer. I had visions in my head of my perfect beach body, and I swore this year would be the year.

Unfortunately, I have swore the same thing for the last five years too.

As we are almost in July and I have actually put on about a stone since the start of the year, I decided it would be more realistic if I work towards a summer 2019 body. Lets be honest, doing anything moderately energetic when you’ve been up for hours doing night feeds isn’t good for your soul, never mind your mental well-being. I’ve even considered buying a juicer (like these from juicers uk), in order to swap fizzy drinks, my downfall, for pure nutritional goodness. What has happened to me.

So… What Are My Goals?

Back before I had children, there was a time when I was actually quite thin. I felt confident, I was happy to peruse various outfits in shops such as Primark and Topshop, and felt that I would look moderately acceptable in the majority. Except now, I just can’t. I have found that I am suddenly a plus sized lady with fuck all choice. Everything is cropped or extremely low cut, and to be frank, I am not willing to get my rolls, or baps, out for anyone.

It’s also worth noting that I am eating dominos whilst I write this. Now I wouldn’t consider myself a genius, but I think that is my first problem.

  • No More Takeaways.

Say it with me.

So my main goal is to actually cook at home more times than ordering in. We find we are doing this more and more, and especially after the birth of our second son, George. Not only is it seriously unhealthy, but it is also emptying any kind of savings we could ever wish to have.

It is so easy to fall into the rut of ordering, though. Even though you can probably knock up something yourself quicker than it takes to arrive, so many of us succumb to a good Chinese, or a pizza dripping in oil. Lets be honest, an oven one is never the same, is it?

But I want to stop eating that kind of thing. I want to make healthy food, on a daily basis, for the sake of my kids too. I mean, Oscar has never ate a takeaway in his life – we always order after he has gone to bed, but still. The irony is that I know it’s bad, hence why I won’t feed it to him. It’s crazy what we will do to ourselves, regardless of all kinds of health advice.

  • Meal Prep

Another one of my goals is to start being more organised, and to begin meal prepping.

This is something I see EVERYBODY do, and yet I am still a meal prep virgin. I’d love to give it a go, especially because I would love an excuse to buy more tupperware. On a serious note, the reason why we eat so terribly is definitely through lack of energy and motivation. We eat barely anything through the day, and by night time we would probably eat our own arm if we could order it from just-eat.

I definitely think planning and organisation would help eliminate this habit; especially if I had something prepared for both lunch and dinner.

  • Exercise More

Probably the most important habit I need to break – driving everywhere. Since getting our car, I have steadily put on more and more weight. We used to walk everywhere and I felt so fit, but these days I am lucky if I can be bothered to walk around the corner shop. Since using my Fitbit, I actually realised how little I do, activity wise. I never came anywhere close to hitting my 10,000 step daily target, and if I did I felt like I had walked a marathon.

We have considered getting a treadmill, but I am rather worried I will lose interest. Especially because I already have an exercise bike in the loft, gathering dust. I much prefer to take in my surroundings, but it is so difficult to go for a long walk with kids. Now summer is approaching, I definitely want to take advantage of the nice weather.

I also don’t have appropriate exercise attire and end up getting too warm in baggy clothing, which puts me off even more. The high-waisted GymShark leggings I see almost everywhere on Instagram look amazing and you can get them discounted at the moment from Groupon too (click here). I’m telling you, the temptation is real.

What I really need, though, is to stop making excuses and to just push myself.

My new mission is to hit 10,000 steps at least 4 times a week.

  • I Want My Energy Back

Since becoming overweight, my biggest issue is the lack of energy I seem to have. I could have the best nights sleep, but I am still just so tired. I’ve began to rely on energy drinks and coffee purely to make it through the day. I put it down to my weight, because I was never like this before. Of course, it could just be kids.

I am so tired and I can’t be bothered to do anything, which makes me just put more weight on. My fitness level has steadily declined as my weight has gone up. This is yet another habit that I am hoping to break.

  • Happiness

The most important thing of all, I want to feel happy with myself again. I’m going through such a low self-esteem patch right now. I hate almost everything I wear and drown myself in boring clothes that are 4x bigger than I need, purely to blend in. I want to have energy to play with my kids, and to feel confident again.

I’m also sick of worrying about things like how big my arms look in short sleeves. Let me tell you, wearing long sleeves in the midst of summer is absolutely horrendous. I want to just feel content in my own body, and not boil myself to death for the sake of vanity and worrying what other people think.

So those are my health and fitness goals for summer 2019. I am going to try and stick to them as much as possible, and I will, of course, keep you updated along the way. If you do have a Fitbit, feel free to leave your email in the comments and I will add you as a friend.

I need to actually full on get my shit together. I would probably die before I hit 10k steps to be quite honest and I need to sort my shit out (I say whilst eating a pot noodle…) x

All these I need to take on board myself, exercise in this heat though is not looking promising.
